Prevent Child Abuse NC Recognizes Two NC Legislators for Commitment to Children’s Issues

Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) recently announced that Senator Sydney Batch of Wake County and Representative Graig Meyer of Caswell and Orange Counties are both recipients of the Legislative Leadership Award. The North Carolina General Assembly award honors members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to children’s issues and policies that support building safe, stable, and nurturing environments in our state.

Senator Batch and Representative Meyer were honored for their dedication to building strong supports for North Carolina’s children and families through their tireless advocacy of paid family and medical leave legislation. Paid family and medical leave are associated with significantly higher breastfeeding and maternal health rates, reductions in hospitalizations for abusive head trauma, and lower rates of family stressors and risk factors for child abuse and neglect.

“Our state’s future prosperity relies on the caring connections and the investments we make today to build safe, stable, nurturing homes and communities for North Carolina’s children to grow up in,” said Sharon Hirsch, PCANC president, and CEO. “We are honored to recognize Senator Batch and Representative Meyer for their work to ensure they all families have the support they need to help their children thrive.”

Hirsch presented Senator Batch and Representative Meyer with the award on June 29, 2021. PCANC Policy Director Melea Rose Waters, Policy Associate Nina Tracy, and Policy Associate Carlye Wittek joined Hirsch in the presentation.
