Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina’s (PCANC) strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it two prestigious nonprofit awards: a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, and a Platinum Seal of Transparency, the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information.

Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability & Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders. On June 1, 2016, Charity Navigator upgraded their methodology for rating each charity’s financial health with CN 2.1. These enhancements further substantiate the financial health of four-star charities.

To reach the Platinum level on GuideStar, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina added extensive information to its Nonprofit Profile: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; qualitative information about goals, strategies, and capabilities; and quantitative information about results and progress toward its mission. By taking the time to provide this information, PCANC has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and to giving donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate PCANC.

“It’s important our supporters trust that we’re using their donations wisely to prevent child maltreatment in North Carolina,” said Sharon Hirsch, PCANC president and CEO. “This rating not only reflects the devotion of our board of directors and staff to improve outcomes for North Carolina children and families, it also highlights our dedication to being good stewards of our supporters’ investments.”
