Transylvania County
In 2018, Transylvania County (TC) hosted a Community Café and Resilience Screening reaching over 100 community members. These events, coupled with a Child Abuse and Neglect presentation to the Community Child Protection Team (CCPT), led to the formation of the TC CPAP. Since the beginning planning stages, TC CPAP has been trained in the Protective Factors Framework and identified CAN cases by zip code to inform specific community-level opportunities for outreach and education. In 2019, TC CPAP participated in Get-Set Transylvania with NC DHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen, NC DHHS Senior Early Childhood Policy Advisor Rebecca Planchard, and Sesame Street in Communities, regarding ECAP alignment. TC CPAP members presented at the 2019 ACEs Conference in Asheville, NC, on their plan and pathways for prevention. In 2020-2021, TC CPAP will continue focusing on finalizing their plan and presenting to the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners.
The Community Prevention Action Plan is under construction.
Transylvania County plans to prevent child maltreatment:
- Awareness of what we can do and are doing to prevent child abuse/Social Norms campaign
- Educate the community on the Protective Factors Framework as a guide for preventing CAN
- Identify service gaps and create opportunities to address them
