Pitt County
In 2018, Sharon Hirsch (PCANC CEO) and Deborah Day (Community-Based Programs Administrator, NC DHHS, DSS, Child Welfare) presented to the Community Child Protection Team (CCPT) and they collectively agreed to bring Community Prevention Action Planning to Pitt County after it was identified as a ready county. Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children agreed to be the backbone organization and lead this work.

Pitt County plans to prevent child maltreatment:
- Strengthen economic supports to families
- Strengthen household financial security
- Create family-friendly work policies
- Promote social norms that protect against violence and adversity
- Develop public education campaigns
- Advocate for legislative approaches to reduce corporal punishment
- Educate about bystander approaches
- Teach men and boys how to be allies in prevention
- Ensure a strong start for children
- Promote early childhood home visitation programs
- Advocate for investing in high-quality child care
- Create programs that promote preschool enrichment with family engagement
- Teach resilience skills for all ages
- Social-emotional learning
- Safe dating and healthy relationship skill programs
- Parenting skills and family relationship approaches
