Prevent Child Abuse NC (PCANC) exceeded a $75,000 challenge grant from ChildTrust Foundation by $180,000 for investments in the prevention of child abuse and neglect across the state. Prevent Child Abuse NC is the only organization in the state focused on upstream solutions built on evidence to support strong families and safe children and engages communities to prevent abuse and neglect.
“As a partner with PCANC, ChildTrust Foundation is pleased to leverage our grantmaking to spark increased donations,” said Easter Maynard, executive director of the Foundation. “It’s wonderful to see so many others step up in support of this critical work as a strategic investment for our state.”
Thanks to the challenge grant, the Katherine Vail Pope Endowment for Prevent Child Abuse NC was established with a gift of $25,000 in honor of long-time advocate and board member, Kathy Pope. And, an anonymous donor generously gave $25,000 in support of Prevent Child Abuse NC’s ‘upstream’ work.
Child abuse and neglect are significant public health problems; however, they are preventable. Children must have safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments to reach their full potential. When communities promote relationships and environments that help children grow up healthy and safe, we can give every child the opportunity to grow up to become productive citizens.
“We all play a role in making sure our state is the best place for children and families to thrive,” says Sharon Hirsch, Prevent Child Abuse NC President and CEO. “We are grateful for the challenge grant from ChildTrust Foundation and the additional investments from Art Pope and an anonymous donor.”
