We are all looking for something positive we can do right now, together. While many things are out of our control, the ability to help strengthen families is not one of them. Child abuse is a preventable problem, and prevention happens in partnership with caring, reliable supporters like you. Your investment helps us advocate for family-friendly policies, support family service agencies across North Carolina as they guide parents through the obstacles of COVID-19, and continue the conversations about the role we all play in preventing child abuse.

Now more than ever parents and children need our support. Let’s do something together that positively impacts the families of North Carolina.

YOU CAN Prevent Child Abuse, North Carolina, Because childhood lasts a lifetime!

The congregation of Warner Temple AME Zion wanted to learn how to better support children and families in their community, so they participated in a training offered by PCANC to become a Connections Matter Congregation. Empowered by that process, Reverend Cliff Barnett began leading an effort to organize the community around supporting students and parents of a local middle school!  Reverend Barnett also became a Connections Matter trainer himself.

“We are proud partners with Connections Matter! We partner here with D.C. Virgo Middle School where every morning we meet with the kids and their parent—we greet them, and we help them…….you can make a difference!”

Your gift creates more opportunities to mobilize faith communities to prevent child abuse by allowing North Carolina congregations to participate in our Connections Matter training each year.

Transylvania County is on a mission to end child abuse by increasing services for families in their community. Susan Huter, Director of the TC Children’s Advocacy Center, along with other local leaders, relied on PCANC’s expertise and ongoing support to create a Community Prevention Action Plan tailored to the needs of their county.

“We know that kids matter, and through the guidance and leadership of Prevent Child Abuse NC and our creation of our community prevention action plan, we are explicitly aligning our language and programs to prevent child abuse.”

Your gift allows PCANC to guide dedicated leaders, like Susan, in their tireless efforts to build supportive communities for families across North Carolina.

When COVID-19 forced Thompson Child & Family Focus to shift service delivery away from in-person settings, Perla Castro, a Family Education Specialist, turned to PCANC as a caring, trusted partner to get ideas on how to continue offering parent support programs in a virtual setting.

“With PCANC’s guidance, we have been able to fully transition virtually continuing to provide the Incredible Years and Circle of Parents programs to families. My Prevention Programs coach, Abel, has also helped me create ways in which to engage parents and caregivers through this new platform.”

Your gift ensures ongoing support for Perla and the hundreds of other family service providers who are working hard to provide high-quality, virtual parenting programs, normally offered in-person.

As President of the Child Care Services Association (CCSA), Marsha Basloe has been advocating for quality, affordable childcare in North Carolina long before the COVID-19 crisis revealed just how critical a resource it is for everyone. She sees PCANC as an ally in state-level policy work because we know that investing in childcare systems is also a strategic way to prevent child abuse and neglect before it ever occurs—by ensuring safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for children.

“We work with Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina to change the system. You can prevent child abuse!”

Your gift allows PCANC to continue advocating for prevention-focused solutions for families alongside leaders like Marsha.
