Mission & History
In
1979, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina was chartered by concerned
North Carolinians, most of who had been involved in the Statewide Child
Abuse and Neglect Public Awareness Campaign (SCANPAC), an organization
that had its beginnings as an ad hoc committee of the North Carolina
Division of Social Services. Early efforts helped to secure the
first Children’s Trust Fund for North Carolina, and to network
professionals through annual conferences.
Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina is the North Carolina affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse America. We are the only statewide non-profit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of child abuse and neglect in all its forms. We are a volunteer-based organization, which relies on the donations and the efforts of concerned citizens to prevent this problem through education and community involvement. Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina Board of Directors, paid staff, and volunteers work together to implement child abuse prevention programs and services on both state and local levels. We encourage and support partnerships between the private and public sectors as well as between statewide and local community prevention efforts.
